WIWT: FACE OFF: The final chapter

Just a brief post of today’s “What I wore today” collaboration with Pete…Sadly this is the last official day of our challenge, but I quite enjoyed doing the “WIWT” drawings and will hopefully continue to do at least 1 a week or so….

Today, I volunteered at the ” Graphic Details: Confessional Comics by Jewish Women” ‘s Symposium organized by they amazing Sarah Lightman….It was an all day thing, so I wasn’t at a computer, thus, I decided to give it a go using my PrismaColour Markers–I used to only draw with these before I started using Photoshop…

Even though I didn’t have all the ‘proper colours’ and that the drawing wasn’t on marker paper (which really affects things), I’m pleased with how it turned out, and really enjoyed the ‘lack of control’ one has when using them…

Tomorrow or Tuesday I”ll be doing a brief ‘recap’ of the Symposium, so be sure to check back for that! And, good news, the show will be going to Washington DC so anyone in that vicinity should definitely check it out!

FACE OFF le troisieme jour

Late last night, with about 45 minutes to spare, I finished my “What I wore today” drawing for the 3rd day of Pete’s & mine’s “FACE OFF.”

As you can see, yesterday was not a very fashionable day for me…I went to a noon yoga class and then just wore my yoga clothes the rest of the rather indecisive day…I even wore them to see the even more amazing in person than on twitter Lisa Hanawalt (of horses & lizard fame) as well as Jillian Tamaki and Eleanor Davis. They were speaking at The Illustrator’s Society (up on 63rd!) and I’m so glad I didn’t ‘cop out’ and not go… I must admit, it was a bit odd though, since a lot of people in the crowd were I believe students, and well, since I’ve been out of school for so long, I still ironically feel a bit awkward whenever I’m around a ton of ‘young people’

But enough! I need to actually get to ‘work work’ and finish up a website…but to note! This sunday is the Graphic Details: Confessional Comics by Jewish Women Symposium at Yeshiva University with the wonderful Sarah Lightman….I will be volunteering there, so swing on by–there’s a ton of awesome comics artists featured and it should be a very interesting presentation…

Also to note, Thom Ferrier and Comic Nurse have been “artists in residence” (I believe that’s the proper term) up in Chicago, so be sure to check out all their adventures, including a few ‘comic mashups’ over on their respective sites. Katie Green seems to be nicely progressing on her graphic novel & Paula Knight’s shared some prep work for her graphic novel (which was shortlisted for the myriad editions 1st fictions, if you recall)… Also, apparently Hannah Berry’s latest graphic novel should be out in the summer–got to see a sneak peak of the cover and it looks awesome (to paraphrase her, the darker the environment in which you read it, the more things come out at the dark at you.”)

What I wore ‘face off’

Well, it’s not really a face off–that just sounds more exciting! But really, here’s the deal: The brilliant Pete Hindle & I have decided to each upload  a new drawing into Gemma Correll‘s “What I Wore Today” Flickr Group this entire week…

Originally we were both going to do the same day, but due to my ‘blonde-ness‘ er I mean, due to some chaos, I misunderstood and thought we were going to alternate weeks…Pete was a great sport & said ‘no worries’ but, I still felt badly, so I’ve unilaterally decided that we’re going to alternate days of this week–so here’s my drawing for Tuesday (umm, pete, if you’re reading this now, hope you’re okay with it…)

I learned about this group from the loverly Katie Green (bean) who, I believe still holds the record for most submissions to the Flickr Group….Each month or so, Gemma picks a drawing to be featured on the actual “What I Wore Today” Blog (& if you recall, when 1 of mine finally made it on the blog, I may or may not have squealed like a little kid)

But enough chatting–go see Pete’s drawing from Monday! And on a semi related note, rent the Bill Cunningham NYC documentary–tis awesome!
